It's a challenge for Australia to break new ground.

The top summits have long been mastered.

We're talking about the squad that has claimed seven Cricket World Cups, along with an additional six T20 titles, and previously enjoyed over three years without defeat in 50-over cricket.

The alternative records, targeted by the record chasers, are the only things left for a side that has achieved everything.

That it took until Sunday's success by three wickets over India for them to accomplish their maiden ODI chase over 300, regaining their record for the largest in the female 50-over format, is, in truth, a testament to the bowlers that have sported the yellow jersey over five decades.

It is hard for their batters to hold a record if not provided the chance.

In the end, the consequence of Australia allowing 330 runs was captain Alyssa Healy getting an opportunity to deliver her newest gem.

Initially recognized as the teenage relative of celebrated previous Aussie wicketkeeper Ian, she debuted in 2010 after her country couldn't capture either of the T20 or ODI World Cups held the previous year and has seen it all through 15 trophy-laden years since.

Success in the T20 World Cup came three months after her debut and seven world titles have followed from 10 tries across formats.

The determined wicketkeeper was present as well in Derby in 2017 when a last-four loss by India momentarily interrupted the run of success.

That loss "pushed us to rethink our standards," Healy commented earlier.

At the next 50-over World Cup in New Zealand, Healy made 170 against England in the championship match and was named player of the tournament. She ensured her country would not come up short.

The question of whether this newest brilliant performance topped that previous effort is debatable.

Certain people claim the argument supporting the pressure of a final. Some might respond with the difficulty that comes when facing a record target and a loud pro-India audience of 20,000.

What's definite is this century was far harder to see coming.

The New Zealand onslaught in 2022 occurred when she was the highest scorer, but this knock followed six innings in India since the start of last month in which she had failed to pass 30.

"If you've observed me in practice sessions, it's been a frustrating experience because it seemed I've had no rhythm at all," stated Healy.

"However when you take the field, your fighting spirit activate and you completely engage with the match."

Healy's competitiveness has consistently been her major advantage - and a priceless quality in taking over from iconic ex-skipper Meg Lanning.

She was tormented by India's emerging talent Kranti Gaud in the previous month's ODI series, dismissed by the emerging pace bowler in each encounter, but here that only provided Healy's inspiration.

One run resulted off Gaud's first delivery and from that point the batsman was underway.

"The possibility to play and engage in competition with her and just have a bit of fun that way, sort of got me going," stated Healy.

She reached fifty in 35 balls - her quickest at the global tournament - and her hundred in 84 as she punished short deliveries, scoring 21 fours and three maximums.

By the time she was removed her side needed 66 additional runs at a run-a-ball - an unconquered height now requiring a leisurely stroll.

"Chasing 330 runs is new territory so I am glad we have the belief to do that now," continued Healy.

"Ideally we won't need to do it again but, should it happen, we believe we can achieve it."

That comment will be the ultimate thing competing nations at this tournament should hear.

During the last week a feeling they will win from any position has become more firm - this victory coming after success over Pakistan by 107 run margin despite being 76-7 at one point.

Next Australia play Bangladesh before a meeting with traditional opponents England in Indore in a week and a half, by which point a semi-final berth may likely be confirmed.

It was in the semi-finals they exited last year's T20 World Cup in an unexpected loss by South Africa - a match Healy was absent due to torn tissue in her foot as she captained her nation for the inaugural occasion at an important competition.

Such is her determination, she subsequently stated she wanted to have participated through the pain.

Yet even as she later admitted those fitness problems have postponed plans to retire, this tournament is expected to be her concluding event as leader in ODI cricket and she is hasn't yet secured an international tournament as leader.

Victory in India would bring her to the top of her ultimate challenge.
