The deal values Mercedes at £4.6 billion – an unprecedented figure for a Formula 1 squad – after the McLaren team were valued at £3.5bn in an adjustment to ownership structure in September. The Austrian executive, who owns a 33% stake of Mercedes F1, would sell a stake approximately five percent. The 53-year-old will remain as team principal and chief executive officer if the sale goes through. Ownership Breakdown Remaining partners in the team are Mercedes and industrial group Ineos Group, who each also own a third of the enterprise. A Mercedes spokesperson said: "We are providing no official statement on this. The governance of the team stays unaltered, and all three partners are dedicated to continued achievements of the brand in Formula One." Financial Growth The deal would represent a significant increase in worth of Mercedes F1 since Ineos Group acquired its stake for £208 million in 2022. The rise reflects the growth in valuations of F1 teams recently as a consequence of the increasing appeal of Formula 1 globally. This was also seen in the box-office performance of the Formula 1 film starring Brad Pitt, which debuted in summer 2023 and has grossed over $630m (£458 million) at the box office. It is the actor's top-grossing movie and the highest-earning sports film ever released. Current Standings The Mercedes team are second in the constructors' championship, behind McLaren Racing, with three Grands Prix left this season. Mercedes' primary racer George Russell has won 2 of the 21 races so far and is in fourth place in the drivers' championship after McLaren's Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri, and Red Bull's Max Verstappen. Mercedes secured a record eight straight constructors' championships and seven drivers' titles, six won by Lewis Hamilton and one by Nico Rosberg, from 2014 to 2021.
